Australian Government seeks submissions on digital TV switch-over issues
On 25 June 2007 the Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, Senator Helen Coonan, released a discussion paper on issues associated with the operation of existing self-help analogue terrestrial television retransmission sites in the future digital environment.
The discussion paper is a follow up to the "Ready, Get Set, Go Digital — A Digital Action Plan for Australia" (Action Plan) publication which was released in November 2006. The Action Plan outlined the major tasks, processes and time frames necessary for the anticipated Australian digital TV switch-over, which is expected to commence between 2010 and 2012, and will be undertaken by the Australian Communications and Media Authority and Digital Australia.
The discussion paper seeks comments from interested parties on the issues raised by the conversion of self-help retransmission sites. The discussion paper:
identifies the number of current analogue self-help retransmission sites;
considers the technical issues and options for the conversion of terrestrial self-help retransmission sites to digital;
considers the option presented by the use of DTH satellite reception equipment; and
discusses the possible timing for implementing the conversion of self-help retransmission sites.
The closing date for submissions on the discussion paper is Friday 10 August 2007.
