Legal NEWS - ACCC publishes Line Sharing Service arbitration results
ACCC arbitrations have concluded between Primus Telecommunications and Request Broadband regarding an access dispute over Telstra's supply of the Line Sharing Service (LSS). In an effort to provide guidance on what constitutes reasonable terms of access and pricing for the LSS, the ACCC has published final determinations made in the two arbitrations. The ACCC also highlighted the determinations as being in line with long-standing pricing principles for the LSS as well as a 2006 ruling of the Australian Competition Tribunal.
The determinations specified a number of changes to Telstra's supply of LSS including:
- setting a rental charge of $2.50 per service per month;
- reducing applicable charges when connecting or disconnecting an LSS; and
- reducing the timeframes to migrate in bulk wholesale ADSL services to the LSS.
The ACCC has stated that these changes will bring significant benefits to consumers.
