ACMA not proceeding with permanent community licence
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has decided to refrain from allocating a permanent community broadcasting licence that it advertised for the Young area.
ACMA was not satisfied that the applicant for the licence, Lambing Flat Community Broadcasting Inc (LFCB), provided sufficient evidence that its services could meet the needs of the community. While LFCB currently broadcasts to the community on a temporary broadcasting licence, ACMA found that LFCB's evidence did not demonstrate that it held a sufficient level of management capacity to provide a permanent service.
Also of concern was LFCB's failure to comply with the terms of its temporary licence. In May 2007, ACMA found that LFCB had failed to encourage community members to participate in the service, and exceeded the maximum five minutes per hour permitted for sponsorship announcements. ACMA has indicated that it will take remedial action. ACMA will continue to allocate a temporary community broadcasting licence to the Young area.
