Australia's Climate Change Policy: Government responds to Task Group Report
- On 17 July, the Commonwealth Government released its detailed response to the Prime Minister's Task Group on Emissions Trading, entitled Australia's Climate Change Policy: our economy, our environment, our future.
- The Policy sets out the Howard Government's international and domestic climate change policies.
- The Policy contains few surprises. It largely adopts the recommendations of the Prime Minister's Task Group on Emissions Trading and builds on recent funding announcements by the Government.
- It includes a commitment to the introduction of an Australian emissions trading scheme by no later than 2012, with detailed design work to begin immediately.
